On Keeping a Journal

carmel

Over the last few weeks, I’ve begun a process of de-cluttering.  Sometimes stressful, but more and more therapeutic as I decide what to hold on to. Wow, we collect a lot of stuff when we stay put for a long time.  As I’ve moved through it all, I found just how little is really worth keeping.  So, out to the trash for most of it.

Through the process, I’ve come across a number of little journal books.  With the best intentions, I’ve started quite a few for particular reasons, especially trips, but then once the trip is over, into a drawer or onto a shelf it went.

31 Days With St. Ignatius

31Days-with-Saint-Ignatius-header

Wow, two posts back to back.  Pretty exciting, huh?  When I saw that Loyola Press is once again offering a 31 day sampling of Ignatian Spirituality, starting today, how could I not let you know about it?

If you’ve been on this blog for a while, you might remember that many of the readers here took advantage of this cool immersion opportunity last year.  At the end of the 31 days, we’ll get to celebrate St. Ignatius’ feast day.

I hope you’ll give it a try by clicking here.  Drop a reply sometime during the 31 days and let us know what you think.

🙂 Have A Blessed Day 🙂

The Daily Examen

ignatius-loyola

In one of my courses this semester, we’ve been asked to pray the Examen prayer of St. Ignatius for a few days, then provide a little discussion board post about our reaction to it.

Well, as many of you know, this was an easy exercise for me.  I’ve been praying with the Examen on a daily basis for several years, and it’s helped me immensely on my spiritual journey.  I know it can be the same for you.

Carpe Diem

walking road

I feel as if I’ve blinked and June has gone by.  I don’t believe I’ve ever been as busy as I am right now, and, although a break is coming, it’s still off in the distance.

Like all things, I’ll survive, and maybe be better for it in the end.  Well, let’s hope 🙂

Come Holy Spirit

pentecost el grec

I’ve been away this past week, and it was good to get home yesterday afternoon.  I’m sure my neighbors appreciated my lawn finally being cut 🙂  Anyway, I had a lot of reading to do, and it was great to sit outside, enjoying the beautiful weather we are having right now in my area.  Today the Church celebrates Pentecost, the moment the Holy Spirit fell upon the first band of Christians.

A Time For Everything

iris

My next door neighbor made a comment to me last week that I’ve been happily pondering ever since.  She said she is always amazed that from early spring to late fall, I have something blooming in my yard.  My mother would be proud, since this was a goal she always worked towards and she instilled the same desire in me.

This morning, as the sun was coming up, I took this photo of the irises growing just outside my kitchen door.  They started their full bloom only yesterday, and the one at the top left is in the process of unfurling.  I love this time of year!

A Spirituality of Place

DSC01321

For the last three days, I’ve been trying to find the time to get this post up.  Between work, school, and keeping up with yard work, I’ve barely had two minutes.  Until now.

A few days ago, I posted on the Ignatian principle of Finding God In All Things.  Over the last several years, I’ve been able to successfully integrate this spiritual concept into my daily living.  Well, most days…

It is the Lord

sun boatIt seems like Easter is quickly becoming a distant memory, doesn’t it?

I don’t know about you, but I seem to be always trying to catch up.  Maybe its work, a missed call from a friend, just paying the bills.  It can be hard to focus on events of two weeks ago when I have a million things to do today.

Happy Easter

imagesCA1BU2X1

I hope you, your friends and family experience the joy that comes with Jesus’ resurrection.  We were blessed with a wonderful spring day yesterday, just what you’d hope to get on Easter.  A good friend called and wanted to get together.  We ended up taking a hike at a nearby nature center.  Signs of new life were everywhere.  How about you?  Where are the signs of resurrection in your own life?  I bet you’ll see them if you take the time to look. Give it some prayer time.  That’s what the Easter Season is all about.

Get Walking

road

Over the last two days, I’ve finally gotten back to talking daily walks in my neighborhood.  Because of the winter we’ve had, it’s literally been months since I’ve been able to get out.  I realized the first morning how much I’ve missed it.

Even though, throughout the winder,  I continued to exercise either at the gym or in front of my t.v. watching  an exercise video, nothing beats getting out in nature.
