Funny how life is. This morning, I woke up from a dream, and the weather I was experiencing in that dream looked something like this picture.
In reality, however, the Polar Vortex had finally come to Maryland, and it was about 4 degrees outside, but with the windchill, it felt like -20. I wanted to go back to bed and try to rejoin that dream of mine, but it wasn’t meant to be. Oh well.
Much of the U.S. is experiencing a deep freeze like we haven’t experienced in many years. I can’t say I’ve experienced such cold weather, and I’m glad I don’t live where this air is coming from. Don’t get me wrong. I like a cold day every now and again, and I even enjoy our brief periods of snow. But this is too much.
As I type these words, a passage from the Old Testament came to my mind. In the third chapter of Daniel (vs. 57-88), we’re reminded that all of creation is meant to praise God. Yes, even the frost, the chill and the snow. I guess that would include polar vortexes, but, alas, they aren’t mentioned specifically.
Well, by the weekend the cold weather will be behind us, at least for the time being. I was talking to a friend today, and I told her this freezing weather is a gentle reminder that I live in a nice, warm house and not on the street. I have food in the fridge that I can heat up and have a hot meal. I don’t have to go hungry. For those of us who are so lucky, today is a good day to praise God for the many, many, many blessings we take for granted. It might also be a good day to figure out a way to help those who are less fortunate. Lord knows, they need it.
