Hit The Switch

I was visiting a friend’s house recently, and picked up a book he had sitting on his desk.  The Healing Light was written by Agnes Sanford.

I had some time on my hands and began flipping through the pages of this short book, which was written in 1947.  In a nutshell, the author lays out the case for spiritual healing, and I was drawn in by the Sanford’s easy and free-flowing style of writing.

I’m not at the point I can recommend the book, but so far, so good.  This morning, I was up early and read something that really struck me.  I thought I’d share it with you, with the hope that all of us could flip the switch and tap into God’s power.

How many Christians down through the ages have failed to receive the answers to their prayers by failing to take this last step- the step of giving thanks!  God is standing before us with the answer in His hands. But unless we reach out our hands and take it by giving thanks for it, we are not apt to receive it.

For while love is the wiring that connects our souls with His, faith is the switch that turns ton the power.  Our homes are full of things that run by electricity: lights, irons, sowing machines, toasters… Just believing there is power called electricity is not enough to make things work for us.  Every time we want one of them to work, we must touch the button that releases the power to that one.

Just believing a set of facts about God does not necessarily turn on the power in a single one of our prayer objectives.  In order to do that, we must believe that we are receiving the thing that we desire. If we really believe this, we will naturally rejoice and give thanks for it.  And when our belief is weak, the act of rejoicing and giving thanks will awaken our faith.

I love the analogy of electricity, and it’s so true, isn’t it?  So often, we fail to tap into the unlimited power of God. I also believe in the wisdom of having faith that God hears our prayers and we need to believe that He will answer them.  Giving thanks immediately after our prayer, trusting that our prayer will be answered, is a powerful sign of our trust in God.

Let’s hit the switch and put this wisdom into practice this week, and let’s see what happens.

I'm passionate about helping people realize that God wants to make something new of them and bring about a permanent transformation in their lives: body, mind, and spirit.

What a great concept = “hit the switch” and give thanks to God for answering our prayer knowing that indeed HE WILL! This is how Mother Teresa prayed while she was alive according to her confessor and it is indeed a great leap of faith to believe in this way! Mother Teresa would request and thank all in the same prayer!… I have a friend who is very ill and when she prays for healing she also includes her thanks to God for healing her in order that she may continue to do HIS work through her! It is a powerful witness – and a great reminder that the power of prayer is inestimable! Thanks Paul!
