“And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; the one who seeks, finds; and the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10
Since the summer, the words from this passage in Luke seemed to turn up everywhere for me. While on retreat, they came to me and I got them into my journal. An hour later, I listened to a presentation and the speaker said these lines would be the focus of his talk.
Someone recommended a prayer to me, and you guessed it, these words were what the prayer was all about. I could go on and on.
Well, friends, here’s the thing. Since June, I’ve been praying these words just about every day, with the expectation that my prayer intentions will turn out the way I had hoped. So far, they haven’t. I’ll be the first to admit that I feel a bit disappointed, a little frustrated.
Why isn’t He listening? Sometimes, don’t you just want to give up? As hard as it is, don’t buy into this way of thinking.
We need to have trust. We need to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. We can’t give up, believing that God just isn’t paying attention to my prayers.
Instead, we need to keep at it, believing that God’s timing is perfect, and that one day, it will all make sense to us. When that day comes, we will find ourselves receiving, finding, and open doors waiting.
Have confidence in that today 🙂
