And a voice came from the heavens, saying ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. (MT 3:17)
Many contemporary spiritual writers talk about our need to be loved. While we try and find love, we sometimes look for it in the wrong places, which gets us into all kinds of trouble. These writers all point us to the ultimate source of love, and that’s God.
More often than not, we are not in touch with the love that God has for us. We struggle with understanding and accepting His love. We can’t believe that His mercy can heal our sins and woundedness.
But when we read these words in Scripture that came down from heaven at the moment of Jesus’ baptism, they create a yearning in our hearts. Henry Nouwen wrote about this extensively. We want someone to tell us that we are the beloved child of God. We want that kind of experience Jesus had in the Jordan, but we keep waiting for it to happen and it never does. And life goes on, with a kind of void that no one and nothing can fill.
As I was thinking and praying about this, I thought, why not my blog post today?
So here it goes. God loves you with an unconditional love. He is pursuing you, longing to be in a relationship with you. When you allow Him into your life, trusting that He has a plan for you, then you can rest in the surety that you are His beloved son/daughter. I hope that brightens your day!
