God never forsakes us; we forsake Him. We get so caught up in our concerns and anxieties that we sometimes forget to open our eyes and hearts to His presence. We become self-absorbed.
When this happens, we allow ourselves to fall into habits and behaviors that we know are not the best for us. Very quickly other things/people can become our god, and we slip into a of shadow of our true self. This is the place where all the things we want to keep hidden about ourselves exist. Lives and marriages are lost here.
If God is not the center of our lives, we will find it difficult to not live in the shadows. When we wander away from God, we quickly fall into self-centered preoccupation. Without Him in our lives, we lose our peace, and venture into an existence of seeking substitutes for that peace and joy that only He can give.
By ourselves, we cannot manage our own lives. I’m sure you’ve experienced the difference between living in the shadows and living in the Light. I don’t know about you, but living in the Light is where I want to be. When we find ourselves drifting to the shadows, we can make a choice. For some of us, this is a daily occurrence.
Staying with God is the only way to live in the Light. Open your heart and mind today and see His goodness all around. Ask Him to forgive you for the times you chose to live in the shadows instead of the Light. Experience the Love and Mercy that can only come from Him, the One who knows us each by name.
Oh, that today you would hear his voice: harden not your hearts.
