Finding God In All Things

In my Spirituality in the Workplace course this week, we’re taking a look at one of the central principles of Ignatian Spirituality, “finding God in all things.”

This principle developed out of a mystical experience Ignatius had early in his spiritual journey.

It is the Lord

sun boatIt seems like Easter is quickly becoming a distant memory, doesn’t it?

I don’t know about you, but I seem to be always trying to catch up.  Maybe its work, a missed call from a friend, just paying the bills.  It can be hard to focus on events of two weeks ago when I have a million things to do today.

Happy Easter

imagesCA1BU2X1

I hope you, your friends and family experience the joy that comes with Jesus’ resurrection.  We were blessed with a wonderful spring day yesterday, just what you’d hope to get on Easter.  A good friend called and wanted to get together.  We ended up taking a hike at a nearby nature center.  Signs of new life were everywhere.  How about you?  Where are the signs of resurrection in your own life?  I bet you’ll see them if you take the time to look. Give it some prayer time.  That’s what the Easter Season is all about.

Get Walking

road

Over the last two days, I’ve finally gotten back to talking daily walks in my neighborhood.  Because of the winter we’ve had, it’s literally been months since I’ve been able to get out.  I realized the first morning how much I’ve missed it.

Even though, throughout the winder,  I continued to exercise either at the gym or in front of my t.v. watching  an exercise video, nothing beats getting out in nature.

Life Moves Fast

Today, my family and I are marking the one year anniversary of my mom’s passing.

In one sense, its stunning to me how quickly these months have rolled by.

The memories of last March and early April are still vivid in my mind.  Maybe they’ll fade over time, but maybe not…

The Francis Factor

Earlier this week, in honor of the 1st Anniversary of the papacy of Pope Francis, an event took place at Loyola University in Baltimore called The Francis Factor.  Although I wasn’t able to attend myself, I was grateful that the Archdiocese of Baltimore streamed it live on their website.

All the presenters, including Cardinal Sean O’Malley from Boston, were first-rate.  Anyone interested in how Pope Francis is shaping the Catholic Church should take some time and watch.

Happy Four Year Anniversary

sunrise new

Four years ago today, I wrote my first post for Making All Things New. 🙂  I certainly didn’t know what I was doing back then, but the post isn’t too bad, so I included it below.  Today’s post is the 651st post.  Hard to believe.

2014 is going to be a busy, but also transformative year for me.  So much is happening, on multiple fronts, it’s hard to keep it all straight.  Things are really coming together with my doctoral studies, and I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you.

Look for lots of stylistic changes to this blog.  They’ll be coming soon, and I know you’ll like them.  In the meantime, thanks for stopping by today, and I hope it’s a great one for you.

March 14, 2010:  I’m embarking on a new adventure!  For the last eleven months, God has been doing some amazing new things with me.  It’s been a radical transformation of my body, mind, and spirit.  I want to share with anyone who will listen what’s happened to me, with the hope that maybe they will find some good advice and make some changes for themselves.

A Sign Of Things To Come

snowdrop

After what seems like forever, the snow is almost gone from my backyard.  Beginning yesterday, I started my annual clean-up process, and I continued it this afternoon.  Since we had such a crazy winter, it’s going to take me some time to get it all done.

Just as I was finishing up for today, I noticed that my little patch of snowdrops had begun their annual bloom.  If you have to know, the correct name for these little gems is Galanthus Ikariae, and they were originally planted long ago by the former owners of my house.

Something New

Making All Things New Web

After many drafts and revisions, I thought it high time to unveil a logo designed just for this site.  Of course, I could describe each little part, since everything has meaning behind it.  For now, I think, it would be better just to ponder it a bit.  Any feedback would be most appreciated.  A young lady I met while doing campus ministry at McDaniel College is the designer.

I’m sure I must have been a difficult client.  You know the type.  It’s there in his/her mind, but he/she struggles to articulate just what they want.  Thanks to everyone who gave us input, and I hope to hear from you in the comments section below.

On March 14th, ten days from now, we’ll mark the fourth anniversary of this website.  I’ll always remember sitting in my living room with a dear friend and together, dreaming it all up.  More to come…

Lent Will Soon Be Here

light in window

A week from today, we begin the season of Lent, a time of prayerful preparation that leads to Easter.

It’s always nice to have some helps during these 40 days, and my friends at Loyola Press have created an on-line retreat called An Ignatian Prayer Adventure  that will keep us focused.
