Waiting for a new Pope

blacksmokeThe Catholic Church has been on a bit of a roller coaster recently.  When Pope Benedict XVI resigned a few weeks ago, it was the first time in centuries that something like this had happened.

With the help of modern media, people like you and me are more in tune to what’s happening over in Rome than ever before.

I’m not sure what the answer is, but as I watched the television this morning and saw all the ancient rituals played out live, I was struck by my belief that somehow the Holy Spirit is behind it all, and there’s something exciting about watching it unfold.

I can’t imagine what must be going through the cardinal’s minds as they entered the Sistine Chapel this afternoon.  What a huge responsibility, and  to be in that Chapel with Michelangelo’s Last Judgement right in front of you as you cast your vote.  Oh my.  Many years ago now, Pope John Paul II wrote a poem about the experience of selecting a pope.  I’ on a hunt for my copy of his book of poetry, and hopefully I’ll put up a few lines before the election is over.

I’m pretty excited about having a new pope.  If you believe everything you read/hear, it sounds like the field is wide open.  Come on, Holy Spirit.  Let’s all pray that everyone in the Sistine Chapel is listening intently.

I'm passionate about helping people realize that God wants to make something new of them and bring about a permanent transformation in their lives: body, mind, and spirit.
