Keeping Calm

I don’t know about you, but it seems like there’s an awful lot of negative things going on in the world today.

I thought that maybe after the political conventions, the rhetoric might be toned down a bit.  No chance.

We all keep praying for peace in our world.  It seems like violence and hatred continue to raise their ugly heads more often than not.  And then there’s the economy, unemployment… The list goes on and on.

It’s easy to get swept up in all the negativity, isn’t it?  Like waves crashing over us, we can quickly feel beaten down by it all, ready to give up.  That’s not the answer.

As hard as it may be, prayer is antidote. Some people simply stop praying, thinking that either God doesn’t care, or He has stopped listening altogether.  It might seem that way, if all we think about is whats gone wrong in the world.  But that would be only part of the story.

There are lots of good things that are happening as well.  Let’s start with the fact that you are alive and able to read these words.  What else can you be grateful for?  A job?  A family who loves you? A good education?  Wonderful friends? A little money in the bank?  What else?

I bet if you put your mind to it, you could create quite a long list of good things that you have in your life.  Without denying all the negative stuff, wouldn’t it be better to focus on the positive?  Wouldn’t that give you some peace of mind, keep you a bit more calm, even make you smile?

Let’s all say a little prayer for one another today, shall we?  Let’s ask God to allow us to be a blessing for others.  Let’s ask for the wisdom to trust Him more, so that we can rise above the difficulties that come our way.  Let’s have more confidence that He’s making all things new, each and every day.
