Taking Time For Yourself

I don’t know about you, but I really needed this three-day weekend.  On Friday, I wasn’t feeling well and went to the doctor.  After some tests, I found out I had a virus and was going to be sick for a while.

I had some vacation plans, and they went right out the window.  I realized that if I was going to get better quickly, I needed to take it easy.  I don’t know about you, but taking it easy doesn’t come naturally to me.

I’m a pretty active person, and I have to juggle lots of things every day.  I enjoy the energy of making things happen, and I love all the various projects I’m involved with.  But, all that action can take a toll, and you have to know when to take a break.

I’d have preferred to have chosen the why/when/where of my break.  Sometimes, it doesn’t happen that way, and you have to live with it.

Today, I’ve spent nearly the entire day reading a good spiritual book that I’ve had a hard time getting through.  Laying on the couch, I was able to move through quite a bit, and all of it good.  I’m sorry it took so long to make the time!

I was also able to have lunch with some elderly friends who I don’t get to see too often. I’ve been friends with them for nearly twenty years.  It’s hard to believe how quickly time has passed.

Well, I know that everyone reading this blog is busy with all the things that come with fall.  Whatever it is for you, please remember to take some time for yourself.  Maybe you could:

  • Read a good book
  • Prepare a new recipe
  • Visit an old friend
  • Make a retreat
  •  Join a gym
  • Take a trip somewhere new
  • Pamper yourself
  • Make a doctor’s appointment
  • Take a hike or long walk

I hope you’ll make some special time for yourself this week.  You’ll be glad you did 🙂
