Fear was made to be overcome. Because we are afraid of so many things, most of the time fear holds us back and keeps us from reaching our potential. We have a fear of failure, a fear of loss, a fear of ourselves, and an endless sea of doubts about our security, our identity, and on and on. But fear is made to be overcome, because once fear is overcome, we are able to be the people we are meant to be.
There are lots of people in financial difficulties right now. There are lots of people dealing with health issues, or it might be a relationships that is falling apart. Some of us are afraid to get out of bed, check the mail, answer the phone. Is this any way to live?
The simple answer is no. Living in fear is not living. How do we overcome fear? First and foremost, through prayer. Fear is also overcome by courage and determination. Mother Theresa was once asked what was the difference between a sinner and a saint. “The saint kept getting up.”
We all have to face our fears, whatever they may be. Developing a plan, either through prayer or talking with a trusted mentor/friend will really help. Get the plan on paper, and keep working it. Develop a timeline so that you can track your accomplishments.
Keep in mind that, despite all our difficulties, good things are still going on all around us. We have to see the good in order to move past the difficulties and beyond the fears that keep us from living life to the fullest. It’s time to stop letting things hold us back from reaching our full potential. Easy? Nope. Worth it? Absolutely.
