Dream Big

By now, you’ve figured out that I have a growing addiction to all these cooking shows that are on cable.  Tonight, it was the season finale of The Next Food Network Star. You’ll have to find out who got their own show, but this last episode was pretty engaging.  I didn’t watch the show each week, but just catch it from time to time.

The funny thing is, I’m not interested in most of the food that is prepared on these shows.  I don’t eat that way anymore, and a lot of it is “heart attack on a plate” kind of stuff. So, if it’s not the food, what is it?

To put it simply, it’s really exciting to watch a bunch of people taking a stab at fulfilling their dreams.  No matter what the show, only one person will make it in the end.  But they all are dreaming big.  The cool thing is, they’re all getting to express their passion with good food.

More and more, I’m sharing that passion with them.  About Wednesday, I begin thinking about what I might find at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday.  I find myself hunting down different kinds of lentils.  I go to the library regularly to check out another cookbook.  When a recipe calls for a particular spice that I can’t find, I order it on-line.  I’m excited about cooking good healthy food and it is so fun to share it with other people.  So many of my friends have said they would have never tried some of my recipes if I hadn’t made it for them first.  One bite, and they’re asking for more:)

During these difficult and somewhat scary times, it’s nice to see people living out their dreams. The sad thing is, most of us have to watch it happen on television.  Not good.

I want to start seeing big dreams come true all around me, with everyone I know.  But before that happens, we have to start dreaming big again.  This time, those dreams won’t involve the biggest house, the nicest car, the most expensive wine served while traveling on the over the top, all on the credit card, vacation.  Reality has returned to our daily living, but this doesn’t have to mean that we have to stop dreaming.

I’m dreaming about helping people get healthy, being more joyful, more hopeful, more peaceful.  I’m dreaming about being content with what I have.  I’m dreaming about making great food and sharing it with friends.

How about you? What dreams are floating around in your head?

I'm passionate about helping people realize that God wants to make something new of them and bring about a permanent transformation in their lives: body, mind, and spirit.
