Finding God In All Things

In my Spirituality in the Workplace course this week, we’re taking a look at one of the central principles of Ignatian Spirituality, “finding God in all things.”

This principle developed out of a mystical experience Ignatius had early in his spiritual journey.

While praying along the banks of the Cardoner River in Manresa, Spain, Ignatius experienced what he called an illumination, and through it he understood that all things flow from God, and all things will eventually flow back to God.  From this new understanding, Ignatius came to believe that we can find God in all things.

Today, take a look around.  Look at the beauty of nature.  Can you find God there?  Look at each person you come in contact with.  Can find God in them?  I promise you, He’s there.

I'm passionate about helping people realize that God wants to make something new of them and bring about a permanent transformation in their lives: body, mind, and spirit.

One reply on “Finding God In All Things”

Paul, thank you for your posting. It was very timely. As I awoke this morning, EWTN was presenting the program “Finding God in All Things” on Ignatian Spirituality with Fr. Timothy Gallager. What a coincidence… I’m sure I will many opportunities to see God in my surrounding today. I’m meeting an acquaintance for lunch today that I haven’t seen in over two years, I will definitely take your words to heart… ” Look at each person you come in contact with today. Can you find God in them?”
