A Diabetic Plan That Works

At the Kickstart Intensive conference I attended over the weekend, one of the first things that was requested of all attendees is that they get some biometric measurements.

Biometrics provides a numerical snapshot of a person’s health, and I joined the line to get my blood pressure, glucose level, weight and cholesterol checked.   Before they even started, I knew that my numbers had been creeping up lately.

When I got my results, there were no real surprises, but they gave me a baseline from which to measure improvement due to the changes I planned to make with the help of this conference.

As a Type II diabetic, I check my blood glucose levels every day, usually first thing in the morning.  When I first began following Dr. Neal Barnard’s plan for reversing diabetes, I saw my numbers drop to normal, non diabetic levels, and they have remained there ever since, even though I’ve haven’t been faithful to his plan for the last year or so.

That being said, slowly but surely my glucose levels have been rising, along with my weight.  There’s been no surprise with this, but I knew I had to get back on track, and that’s the reason I went to this terrific conference.

Two key parts of being successful on Dr. Barnard’s plan is moving to a plant-based diet and regular exercise.  They fed us really, really well at the conference, and I walked quite a bit each day.  We were treated to cooking demonstrations, recipes and tips on what to buy, and how to keep food costs to a minimum.

Recipes in hand, I stopped by Trader Joe’s on my way home on Saturday, and loaded up.  Good food doesn’t have to be expensive if you’re a wise shopper, and I was happy with my $35 grocery bill.

At the end of the day, results matter, right?  Well, since last Thursday afternoon, when I had my blood glucose checked, my numbers have steadily declined.  When I did my daily check yesterday, it was 24.7% below where it was Thursday, a clear sign that this diabetic plan works.  It was just about at the same level this morning, so I know I am back on the track to better health.  It can be the same for you.

Friends, all we have to do is look around us to realize that people aren’t taking care of their health.  Our diets and lack of exercise are literally killing us, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Dr. Barnard’s plan is one of many, but it’s the one that works the best for me.  The world-wide and long-standing research that’s behind it shows that many health issues can be greatly improved, if not completely reversed, by making simple but important dietary changes.  Go to his website and see what’s there.  Give it a try, regardless of whether you have any health issues or not.  I think you’ll be glad you did. 🙂
