Hello Rain

I’m always a little disappointed when I’m on vacation and it rains.  Especially when the vacation is in Southern California, which hardly ever gets rain.

My mom and I are heading out early for a little shopping excursion, hoping to beat the worst of it, which is supposed to come in this afternoon.  A whole inch in five hours.  That’s a lot for this area, and I’ve been told it’s best to stay off the roads.  People just don’t handle rain well around here.

The wet weather is certainly needed, as the folks here have been in a long-term drought. It’s not just here though.  I was reading an article in the newspaper the other day talking out how a really bad drought in Texas has affected life there, especially high school football.  Little towns that were once thriving, both in jobs and sports, are now on life support.

As they suffer, the place where I live got twenty-three inches of rain in the month of August alone.  A couple of tropical storms helped, but there was so much rain coming down, most of it ended up in the Chesapeake.  Oh well.

No matter where we live, we need water to live.  It’s something most of us take for granted, but when you’re from a place that gets very little, every drop counts.  I’m glad I got to experience a bit of rainy weather here today.  It makes me look forward to the sunny skies that California is known for.  The vacation continues…
