Vacations Past

Two weeks ago, my family and I were supposed to go on a beach vacation.  We had been looking forward to it for months, and had eagerly laid out plans for a wonderful time.

Because of illness, the trip got cancelled, and it was a letdown for all of us.  I decided to still take the week off, but do some things around the house, work on my website, and develop a new project that I’ll be telling you about in the next couple of weeks 🙂

I realize now I should have gone somewhere.  Anywhere.  Just get away from all the pressure of my daily life.  In the end, I felt like I really didn’t get much accomplished, and came back to work more exhausted than before I started.  Has something like that happened to you?

Well, this weekend, I’m going to get out some photo albums and transport myself back in time, back to a couple of great past vacations.  Of course, I’m doing all this in my mind, but that’s o.k.  Remembering Tuscan adventures, walks in Assisi, meals in Rome and Venice. Ah, Italy.  How about that trip out West to see Yellowstone, Cripple Creek, Jackson Hole, the Grand Tetons, Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands.  What an amazing time we had.

I feel better just sitting here, recalling those wonderful times with friends and family. One of my best vacations took place just a couple of years ago.  My mom and sister came to visit, and we spent a couple of days in Fenwick Island, Delaware.  Staying in a hotel just down from the beach, the weather was perfect and we had such a relaxing time.  I love looking at the photos from that trip.  Seeing the photo of my mom, decked out in a life-preserver, glass of wine in hand, as we made our way across the lake in a pontoon boat, always brings a smile to my face.

Friends, no matter where we are in life, we all need a re-charge from time to time.  If you’re blessed with the ability to afford a vacation this year, take full advantage of it. If money is tight, take day trips, whether it be to the beach, or maybe the mountains.  Just something the help you re-focus.  If you’re stuck right where you are, you can get some photos out, and they can help you recall a wonderful trip from your past.

Or, most simple of all, just close your eyes and dream of somewhere you’ve always wanted to go.  Maybe Hawaii.  Maybe Europe.  Maybe Australia.  No matter where that place might be for you, I hope you get there this weekend, even if it’s only in your dreams.

Have a great weekend!
