I took a shopping trip into Baltimore today, trying to get some things for the three-day weekend. First, I wanted to get the ingredients for the Carrot Oatmeal cookies I was going to make. I found the recipe on-line, and since I love oatmeal cookies, I thought this would be the perfect way to try something new and use up a bunch of carrots I bought last weekend. The recipe called for some ingredients not found up here in the country :), things like coconut oil. Well, when I found it at Whole Foods, I was scared away by all the saturated fat, which was double was found the amount found in lard. Ugh. As an option, the recipe said you could use olive oil, which I have. Plus, the price was, um, pricey.
So, I came back set with enough groceries to make it a test kitchen weekend. I bet you’re wondering why I posted a picture of birds in flight, instead of the cookies. Well, simply put, they didn’t turn out too good.
It’s not that I burned them. They were perfectly cooked. It was the taste. Orange cardboard comes to mind. I guess I’m still getting used to this vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. I was really hoping to get some nice dessert recipes up on my soon-to-be active sacred feasts blog. I promise you won’t be finding these little dog biscuits there. Such high hopes. I guess it’s back to fruit.
What’s the point? I want to keep trying new things, seeing what works and what doesn’t. So far, everything has tasted great, and my friends have enjoyed all the good food too. Every now and again, there’s going to be a dud. I’m going to keep trying, though, and I want to encourage you to do the same.
If you’re not into cooking, no problem. I’m sure you can find something fun and new to do this weekend. Getting out for a walk or hike would be a great way to enjoy your time off.
