Whenever I’m having a tough day, I easily close my eyes and remember my first glimpse of this mountain range, which seemed to rise out of nowhere, as we traveled down from Yellowstone. It certainly is one of the most beautiful spots in the United States.
As my friend prepared for her trip over the last few days, we talked several times about all the places to see around the Tetons. Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Jenny Lake, the Snake River…
When I was growing up, I learned about Yellowstone, but no one ever told me about the unbelievable majesty of these other places. My family and I traveled there during better times. The economy was good, we were all feeling great, we weren’t concerned about much of anything. Now, those carefree days seem like so long ago.
If you’re lucky enough to be able to travel to this part of the country, by all means, do it. A young friend was talking to me last week about the potential of a cataclysmic event sometime in the not-too-distant future in Yellowstone. The whole place is ready to blow, he excitedly told me.
Well, we don’t know if that will happen this year, or 500 years from now. I’m trusting that my coworker and her family make it out in one piece, with plenty of pictures to verify that everything is still intact.
I hope that you have a fond memory or two about someplace you’ve been. Circumstances being what they are, we may only be able to return there in our dreams. Or we may be able to make the actual trip, reliving the experience while at the same time making some new memories.
When you’re having a tough day, where do you dream about escaping to?
