Fitness Challenge Update

Seven weeks ago, I made a New Year’s Resolution to complete a Fitness Challenge at my local YMCA.  The program is loosely based on the Biggest Loser television show, which puts people into workout teams and they compete to see who can lose the most weight.

Well, I’m at the midway point in the ten week challenge, and things are going pretty well.  I’ve lost about ten pounds and am moving towards my goal.  More importantly, I’ve been working out just about every day, and that’s where I’m seeing the most improvement.

I should add that before I started the challenge, I hired a Personal Trainer. Together, we’ve developed a workout plan that will help me achieve one of my big goals of 2011.  I want to run in a marathon.

Tracy’s plan, in conjunction with the fitness challenge, has really helped me get back into shape.  I still have a long way to go, but I’m feeling good and getting stronger. As watch other people on my team struggle with losing weight, I’m grateful that I made the decision to get the personal training sessions.  I think they’ll really pay off in the end and I’ll be able to accomplish both my goals:  get to 180 and run a marathon.

So, how can you tie this into your own life?

We’re seven weeks into the New Year.  How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions?

If you’re on track, great.  Congratulations 🙂  If you find yourself stuck, figure out a way to get unstuck.  Develop a plan and find someone to help you.  We all need coaching and encouragement.  Maybe its a friend or family member.  Maybe you’ll need to hire someone.  Whatever it is for you, get moving on your plans.

As you might remember from some of my posts at the beginning of 2011, the vast majority of us never do anything with our resolutions.  We might start out great, but then quickly we fall right back into old habits.

Maybe we wanted to eat better, find a new job, save more, get into shape, be more kind and forgiving, learn a new hobby.  Whatever it was for you, I want to encourage you to keep at it.

In the past, I’ve failed miserably with my New Year’s resolutions.  I didn’t write them down, and basically forgot about most of them before January was over.  This year, it’s different.  On December 29th, I posted my resolutions for you to see.

I wanted to be held accountable, and there’s no better way to do that than to get it there for the world to see.  I know it was a bit risky, but it was what I needed to do. Now, several weeks later, I realized that this accountability has really helped me stick with it, and I’m grateful for making that decision.

Whatever it is that you’re working on, find someone to be accountable to.  If you don’t think you have anyone, don’t worry.  Post what it is that you’re trying to accomplish in the comment section, and we’ll all try and lend some support.

We all need to get ourselves into shape, body, mind and spirit.  As I’ve been writing for almost a year now, you can’t work on one and neglect the others if you want to be in peak condition.

Let’s get going 🙂
