This New York Times bestseller isn’t pushing some fad diet. Instead, it’s about getting back to basics. The whole premise is that we can lose weight and feel better by eating more fiber.
The authors cite several major studies which show those who eat a diet rich in fiber can reduce the risk of developing cancer by 30-40%, help diabetics keep their blood sugars under control, and lower the risk of heart attack and strokes by up to 40%.
Two of the coolest sections of the book are Top Five and the Fiber Face Off. In the Top Five, the authors list out the tope five fiber rich foods in the following categories: fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains.
The Fiber Face Off section gives tips on how to make everyday food items more fiber-rich. For example, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on wheat bread has 2 grams of fiber. By using double fiber grain bread, crunchy peanut butter and adding a sliced banana, you can increase the amount of fiber to 18 grams:) That’s just one example among many.
The goal of the diet is to get us to a daily intake of 40 grams of fiber a day. This book makes that goal obtainable by showing the reader, in a simple and easy to read format, how to choose the most fiber rich foods on a daily basis.
