Given the present economic situation most of us find ourselves in, we have become afraid of risk. Caution seems to be the word of the day. I’m wondering, though, if our caution and risk aversion has given way to a kind of paralysis. Many have become afraid to do anything, but at the same time feel frustrated and trapped. Does this resonate with you?
I don’t think this is a healthy way to live, and if this is where you are, it’s time to start a transformation. The process should begin by taking an honest assessment on where you find yourself. How did you get to where you are? Overspending or overeating? Lack of discipline or lack of ambition? Didn’t focus on goals or what should be most important in life?
The list could go on and on, and I’m pretty sure we could all build our own little litany of reasons why we find ourselves where we do. I would suggest to you that such a list can be the starting point of our transformation.
Transformation is risky. It’s going to require you to see things in a new way, to alter your perspective and cause you to stretch. But the time has come. Yes, it’s time to get moving, and even baby steps are still counted as moving forward 🙂
This week, I want to encourage you to think about one or two areas of your life where you feel frustrated and/or trapped. Write them down. Spend time thinking about how you got to this point. Then, spend some time in prayer. For some, you may have to ask the Lord to forgive you for creating the situation. For others, you may have to forgive someone else for something that led you to this point.
The next step is to begin figuring out a way out. Pray about it. Talk with a mentor or trusted friend about possibilities and options. Start becoming optimistic, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. As a friend pointed out on his blog the other day, if you want change, you have to change. You can’t have someone do it for you.
All of this is going to involve risk, and risk can be scary. But we can’t keep putting it off. As I look out my window right now, I see the sun coming up. Tomorrow has become today. It’s time to get moving.
