At the beginning of my Ignatian Retreat last weekend, I received a folder which included an outline of the retreat and a tip sheet on how to get the most out of our silent time together.I know from personal experience that silence during meals, when everyone is sitting together, can be a big challenge. It's hard not to ask the person sitting across from you how they are doing, or to pass the...

Honesty is important in blogging, don't you think? So, I want to admit that when I first saw this recipe in a magazine, I wasn't too excited to try it.I was on a layover at the Phoenix airport, and browsing a magazine rack, I picked up the latest edition of Phoenix Home and Garden. With plenty of time to burn, I flipped through the pages and found an article entitledCabbage Is King.

At the Kickstart Intensive conference I attended over the weekend, one of the first things that was requested of all attendees is that they get some biometric measurements.Biometrics provides a numerical snapshot of a person's health, and I joined the line to get my blood pressure, glucose level, weight and cholesterol checked. Before they even started, I knew that my numbers had been creeping...

Do you ever feel like you've lost your bearings and have the sense that you're not where you want/need to be?I'm busier than ever, with lots of great things going on in my life, but lately I've been neglecting my diet and exercise schedule, and my body is telling me that it's time to pay attention.Just the other day, a kid in my neighborhood who belongs to my church mentioned "I haven't been...

This past Saturday, I had lunch in Washington DC with one of my professors. He was getting ready to leave for vacation, and I needed to return a bunch of books to the library, so we got together to talk about my doctoral project. It will be focused on helping people prayerfully transform their health, the target audience being folks who are overweight and have type II diabetes.

With the click of my mouse, I'll be emailing the last of my class papers this morning :) Going back to school hasn't been easy, but I am grateful for the experience, and grateful that my classes are over until next year. Now, it's time to take a breath and then get back to business. I hope you've been to your local farmer's market by now. There is so much great stuff to buy, but I'm still...

Ah, olive oil. Years ago, I took a group of young people over to Italy. For months afterwards, a group of them and I would sit around doing a Bible study, all the while dipping pieces of bread into a mixture of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Heavenly.Over the years, I've grown to love olive oil, and have tried many different types.

When I wrote my post about control the other day, I didn't think that I'd be writing a part two. Something happened yesterday got me thinking, and I wanted to share it with you.I was meeting with my chiropractor yesterday, and he was asking me about the medications I take on a daily basis. One of those that I have to take each and every day is called synthroid, and it makes up for my...

I was out on yahoo's homepage yesterday, and I saw a little news item that caught my attention. It read, McDonald's drops pink slime. How could you not open that little window to see what they were talking about? Heck, we all eat at McDonald's from time to time, right?Well, I think they'll be a few less fast food customers after watching this video clip.
