What A Ride

August 16, 2010 20:43

For the last several weeks, we've been waiting to hear who are new pastor will be.  We're losing a much beloved and long-serving man, and it seems like we're all on this crazy roller coaster ride of emotions as we await his replacement.

I'm sure you've found yourself in a similar situation, facing down the unknown with a bit of fear and apprehension.  The rumors go flying,  and everyone scrambles to get to the truth.  We can't wait to get off this ride.

The funny thing is, we know deep down that the ride will come to an end, and we'll settle back into the regular rhythm of life.  Without a doubt, change is a part of life.  Wouldn't things be boring if everything remained the same?  Approaching change should be the same as jumping on a roller coaster.

We hop in our seats, get safely buckled in,  knowing all the time that someone who knows what they're doing is really in control.  Yes, we'll be a bit scared, and yes, we'll get bounced around some.  Sound's a bit like life in 2010, huh?

God is in control, and He knows what He's doing.  When this present ride comes to an end, we'll jump off, laugh away our apprehensions, and charge off to the next one.

One of my good friends leads music at my church.  I love to hear him sing the song, Everything Is In Your Hands, written by Terry Butler.  As we move through difficult and anxious times, these lyrics remind us that Someone greater than us has got it all under control, even though it may at times seem otherwise.

Everything is in Your hands

Everything is in Your hands

Everything is in Your hands oh God

My past and my present and things yet to come

My days are in your hands, each and every one

I know I can handle any challenge that I face

You promised You'd be there every step that I take

There's nothing too big that You aren't bigger

Remind us again, Lord, You are in control

We know You can handle any challenge that we face

You promised You'd be there every step that we take

We have nothing to fear.  Jump on, buckle up, and enjoy the ride:) It will be over before we know it.
