Opportunities Galore!

September 04, 2010 10:06

It is a beautiful morning here in Westminster, MD.  I got an extra-long walk in today, and even saw the beginnings of some fall color on a young sugar maple.  What a glorious day!

While walking, I was thinking about all opportunities to do something good this Labor Day weekend.  As the spin doctors continue to paint a bleak a picture as possible on just about everything, I realized how important it is for us to focus on the good that we can do, and the good that is all around us.

While we may have little or no control of the world around us, we can control ourselves.  So, the challenge to myself and to you is to spend this weekend trying to do some good.  Here's ten ideas:

  1. Be kind to someone.

  2. Call/email/text an old friend who you haven't spoken with in a while.

  3. Check out a self-improvement book from the library.

  4. Get out in nature.  Either visit a park, go on a walk, or take a scenic drive.

  5. Have a good laugh.  We're all getting too serious.

  6. Prepare a nutritious home-cooked meal for your family/friends.

  7. Make a donation, however large or small, to a charity of your choice.

  8. Set some new goals for yourself.  They should be clear, reasonable and written down.

  9. If you need to make a fresh start with something, be it a relationship, a health issue, your finances, or your attitude, let this be the weekend for a new beginning.

  10. Get right with God.  He wants so much to be your friend, to help you through your difficulties, to be your greatest support and source of healing.  He will never give up on you, and wants nothing more than to make all things new with you.  Invite Him in.

Well, folks, have a great weekend, and please take advantage of the countless opportunities to do something good.
