Cura Personalis

Just the other day, I came across something in our local Catholic newspaper that got me excited.  The article was about a gentleman who was changing jobs at a Jesuit High School in Baltimore, and  he said that one of his tasks at the school was to integrate St. Ignatius' Cura Personalis into the daily activities of the school.  So, just what is Cura Personalis you ask?  It's Latin for care for the whole person: body, mind and spirit.  Those that frequent this blog will recognize that this is a familiar theme here at Making All Things New.

When I started blogging over four years ago, I set out to help people get their lives back in order: body, mind, and spirit.  Back then, I didn't know anything about Ignatius' Cura Personalis, but from personal experience I came to understand that, if we really wanted to be all that God calls us to be, we needed to focus on all aspects of our lives.  Doesn't that just make sense?

There's a lot more to this dictum of Ignatius than I can cover today.  Here's a speech given in 2007 by Fr. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, one of the successors of St. Ignatius.  It will provide more detail on this aspect of Ignatius' Spiritual Exercises, and I hope you take the time to read and ponder it.

When you have the chance today, take ten minutes and think about your own situation right now.  Is there an area of your life that has some unhealthy aspects to it?  If there is, pray about what you might need to do to rectify the situation.  Ask God for wisdom, and He'll give it to you.

Friends, I hope you have a blessed day!
