Over the last few weeks, I have been feeling like a fog is lifting around me.
I've been thinking more clearly, feeling better, and have had a lot more energy. My prayer life has been really good too.
I can't really say why this hazy feeling is lifting from me, but I'm just glad that it is. It guess it came on slowly sometime during the fall, which is always a very busy time for me. There was lots going on, and plenty of stress added to the mix.
As I'm sitting here typing, I'm thinking one of the key factors was teaching those two classes with over 70 participants. Once I realized the demands those classes were going to make in my life, I wasn't too thrilled with it. I soon learned that more than a handful of participants felt the same way.
Over the last several weeks, however, as the participants submitted their assignments to me, I grew to really enjoy the work, albeit a major time commitment. In reading their submissions, I was touched by their honesty and desire to grow. Many shared the ups and downs of their life with me, and they were seeking ways to improve themselves.
I felt blessed to read how some of the methods of Ignatian spirituality that I introduced to them had really impacted their prayer life. I hope all of them will find someone to fill the role of a spiritual director. So many of us try to make sense out of life without the help of a trusted and trained guide. Maybe that's why people just simply walk away from their faith. Either they didn't seek out guidance, or the person they turned to didn't know what they were doing.
So how are you doing right about now? Did that image of being in a fog resonate with you? If you're doing well, congratulations, and keep it up :)
If you are feeling like you're living in a haze, talk it over with someone who knows you well. Life shouldn't be spent in the fog, my friends. There is too much to do, too much to see, too many people to meet and places to go. I feel a New Year's resolution coming on...
