Autumn is Here

September 23, 2011 16:07

I was sitting in my living room this morning doing a little reading.  It was a quiet, peaceful time, and I got some much-needed solitude.

As I looked through the sliding glass window of my dining room, I watched as the leaves of my english walnut tree dropped its leaves onto the patio.  It was beautiful to see them drift slowly to the ground.  I must admit, however, that I wasn't looking forward to cleaning them up :)

Nonetheless, it was a gentle reminder that the seasons are quickly changing.  I love the fall, and I relish the opportunity to be introspective when the seasons change.  I'll be doing that for the next couple of weeks, as more leaves come down, the air turns cool and brisk, and we start slowing down, anticipating the winter ahead.

Take some time this weekend and review how you've been doing recently.  Any relationships need mending?  Any situations that need to be addressed?  Any new skills you want to learn?  I hope you have a great weekend, wherever you are.

Gathering Leaves

By Robert Frost

Spades take up leaves

No better than spoons,

And bags full of leaves

Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise

Of rustling all day

Like rabbit and deer

Running away.

But the mountains I raise

Elude my embrace,

Flowing over my arms

And into my face.

I may load and unload

Again and again

Till I fill the whole shed,

And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,

And since they grew duller

From contact with earth,

Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use.

But a crop is a crop,

And who's to say where

The harvest shall stop?
