An Scary Statistic

October 23, 2010 19:45

I've been attending some conferences down in Virginia the past few days and am glad to be able to sleep in my own bed tonight. I always enjoy traveling, but there's no place like home :) Although I don't usually read the USA Today newspaper, there's always plenty of them at hotels.

So, this morning I picked one up on my way down to get some coffee, and on the front page was a huge article about diabetes. The info in the article was not good.

According to a new report issued by Centers for Disease Control on Friday, the number of people in the United States with diabetes is expected to "double, even triple," by 2050. The article goes on to say,

one in ten US adults have diabetes now.  The prevalence is expected to rise sharply over the next forty years with as many as one in three having the disease, primarily type 2 diabetes.

Folks, I know I talk quite a bit about diabetes on this blog.  These statistics are truly staggering. Although genetics play an important role in this disease, there are plenty of supporting data that show a healthy diet and consistent exercise can make a world of difference in determining if you develop the disease, or if you have it, how you can reduce or even eliminate complications.

Diabetes is going to affect all of us, one way or the other.  Simple lifestyle changes can make a world of difference.  Please take this to heart.  I promise you, you won't regret it.

There's plenty of good information about diabetes and vegetarian diets right here on this blog.  Just click the tabs to the right.
